A New Listener of the Month!

This is why we do this...this is the soul of what drives WBKM. Our latest "Listener of the Month", Justin Haight....read his story here:

Hey everyone out there, my name is Justin Haight. I’ve had the pleasure of befriending Tony and Eric ...about five years ago now. I was managing a pizzeria in the heart of downtown and like most enjoy a nice refreshing beverage after a long day. I wondered into a neighboring bar of Nectar’s to sit down to my ritualistic post shift beer except this time it was a little different, I was the only one in the bar. I asked the bartender why it was so quiet that evening and she told me there was a new band playing on the Nectar’s stage, she’d said she had never heard anything like it, and I should go check them out. With her words of advice I made my pint disappear and wandered into a life changing event. With a Tuesday night dance floor packed, the sound of passion, inspiration and soul touching music in the air, and that feeling you only get when you go home for the holidays surrounding me I knew it was going to be one of those “I don’t ever want this night to end” kind of events. It was the first time I had been acquainted with WBKM.org and was definatly one of those nights. From that show forward, Tuesday nights from eleven until the final set you could find me there jamming to the WBKM bookem’ blues band.

The music was just part of the experience that kept bringing me back to that stage every week. I had the pleasure of meeting two people I consider dear friends to this day. Meeting Tony and Eric was a life changer for me. I had never met anyone fueled by such passion for life, family and music. I would run into them around town weather it was to come grab a slice of pizza or poke their head in just to say hello and talk about music but no matter what happened the conversations seemed to always end up with I can’t wait until Tuesday. The best part about this is that it didn’t matter if it was Monday night or Wednesday morning. Little did I know this was the beginning to an amazing relationship. This distinct love that they shared with me is something I cherish and will for the remainder of my days. It shows with every song they play, interview they conduct, and every word they speak, they are the reasons I learned dead flowers on the guitar, get a funny feeling in my stomach every time I hear “Have you ever loved a woman”, and now understand why music isn’t just something to just be listened to. Music is something to be felt, celebrated and embraced, it can get you through the toughest of times or compliment the best days of your life. The strongest thing I learned from these two awesome guys is that music is something to be shared and it brings all different types of people together. That to me is what WBKM.org is. It’s a place for everyone to come together and enjoy great music no matter if your home by yourself or on a crowded dance floor. It’s about passion, raw unfiltered passion that comes from something that is inside of everyone, WBKM just helped me locate it. I found it in the place where the deepest part of my heart and the pit of my soul connect and only way I discovered it was because I had some true friends at WBKM who guided me all the way with great music.
